Workshop Title:  Five Characteristics of Islamic Art: A Hands-On Painting Workshop

In this workshop, you will gain an understanding of the major characteristics of Islamic art.  Through examples and explanation, you then move to painting with acrylics on fabric, your own creative juxtaposition of any or all of the five characteristics, through use of pre-cut stencils.  You will be able to take home a completed art project.  Please come to class in clothes that welcome paint stains.

About the Instructor:  Audrey Shabbas is coming from Belize to showcase art workshops presented across the US to teachers in teacher workshops Shabbas has conducted in all fifty states – for country and state offices of education, and for colleges and universities. She is founder and director of non-profit organization AWAIR: Arab World And Islamic Resources (now no longer in operation).  This workshop draws upon the curriculum work of Sylvia Godlas “Doorways to Islamic Art”, formerly published by AWAIR.
